Are you ready for some football???!!! Friday night, April 16th, the Milwaukee Iron will be having their home opener against the Iowa Barnstormers and the Iron Kid of the Game is ready for some fun.
The first 2010 Iron Kid of the Game is Zedrick. He has had a pretty rough first 6 years. He was born 3 months premature to a mother that was….shall we say…. less than careful with the chemicals she exposed Zedrick too before he was out on his own. Because of this, Zedrick was placed in the home of an incredible foster family. Wade and Lennea Meddaugh have been a wonderful gift to foster kids. Wade is an Iraq War veteran who was injured in the war. Due to injuries sustained fighting for our country, Wade has been unable to work, and he receives disability benefits. Well, Wade is not someone who is a “taker”, so he decided that if his country was going to take care of him, then he could help take care of some needy foster kiddos. He and his wife have been taking in kids with special needs for years. Zedrick is one of those lucky kids.
On Tuesday of this week, Zedrick had his 13th surgery to help with severe scoliosis of the spine. He has also had 4 foot surgeries and 3 gastroenstinal surgeries. That’s right, he has had 20 surgeries in his 6 years of life. He is also scheduled to have another 20 surgeries before he is 12. He has a g-tube and a j-tube to eat and take his medicines. Even with having medicines and food given directly into his stomach/intestines, he still throws up several times a day. He is truly a little warrior and without Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, he wouldn’t be here today.
Before Zedrick’s surgery on Tuesday, he came in to get his ticket for Friday’s game. He is looking forward to this so much, that he wanted the ticket before the surgery so he could make sure he had it before Friday. He is really excited and can’t wait to watch the Iron in action. Hope to see some of you there. Check back after the game for pictures of Zedrick enjoying his moments with the Iron.
